English: Raja Lal Singh who led Sikh forces against the British during the First Anglo-Sikh War (1845-46) and was defeated at the battle of Sobraon on the 10th February 1846. After the Treaty of Lahore, Sir Henry Lawrence was appointed British Resident and Lal Singh was asked to surrender Kashmir to Raja Gulab Singh (an ally of the British), and sent to exile.
