K. S. Sabarinadhan is an Indian politician, engineer, and business executive of the Indian National Congress party. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, representing the Aruvikkara constituency of the Thiruvananthapuram district in the state of Kerala from 2015 to 2021.

Personal life[edit]

Sabarinathan was born in a Hindu Nair family to former minister and former speaker G. Karthikeyan and Dr. M. T. Sulekha at Thiruvananthapuram on 5th September 1983. He is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from College of Engineering Trivandrum in 2005. He completed his MBA from MDI, Gurgaon in 2008. After that, he worked with the Tata Group in Mumbai for several years, eventually spending a few years working with the Tata Trusts in the areas of healthcare and nutrition. [2]

On 2 May 2017, he announced his engagement to Thiruvananthapuram sub-collector Divya S. Iyer.[3] On 30 June 2017, he married Iyer in Kumarakovil, a temple at Thuckalay in Kanyakumari district, becoming the first MLA-IAS couple in Kerala.[4]

Political Career[edit]

After his father, G. Karthikeyan's death on 7 March 2015, Sabarinadhan was forced by Kerala State Congress Committee to contest in the bye elections on the constituency that his father represented. He resigned his job, and has then entered politics. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in the 2015 By-elections from Aruvikkara constituency[5] with 56,448 votes and a margin of 10,128 Votes,[6][7] defeating M. Vijayakumar (CPI-M) and O. Rajagopal (BJP).[8]

In 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election he was again elected from Aruvikkara constituency by defeating Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s Adv. A.A.Rasheed by a margin of 21,314 votes.[9] He was later selected as the Vice President of Kerala Youth Congress in 2020.[10]
