Made on a production budget of ₹220 million, it went on to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2005, earning over ₹798.5 million worldwide. It is an official remake of the 2002 Tamil film Charlie Chaplin. This film is remade in Bengali as Kelor Kirti in 2016 starring Dev Adhikari , Ankush Hazra and Jisshu Sengupta. Dev was in place of Salman Khan, Ankush in place of Fardeen Khan and Jisshu in place of Anil Kapoor.

Plot[edit]

Kishen (Anil Kapoor), a wealthy print-media owner, has a suspicious-minded wife, Kaajal (Lara Dutta), who thinks he is always having an affair with another woman, even though he is extremely faithful to her and wouldn't dream of betraying her in any way. Prem (Salman Khan), Kishen's friend who is also a wealthy businessman, has the opposite situation. He is married to Pooja (Esha Deol), who is very trusting, even though he has been having several affairs with numerous gorgeous women. There is Kishen's employee Shekhar (Fardeen Khan), whom Kishen treats as his younger brother, who accidentally falls in love with Sanjana (Celina Jaitly). Sanjana hates lies and doesn't tolerate other woman in a man's life. Then Bobby (Bipasha Basu), a call girl, enters the story. When Kishen takes pictures of Prem and his girlfriend, and threatens to send them to his wife, Prem hires Bobby to seduce Kishen. The plan is that Kishen will fall in Prem's trap, and Prem wants to see if Kishen can hide the relationship from his wife. Kishen plans to meet Bobby at his home while his wife has gone to Ajmer. Though forgetting her passport at home, she returns, only to find Bobby with Kishen in their out-house, which they had given Shekhar to live in. Then the lies start happening, as Kishen to hide his mistake from Kaajal tells her that Bobby is Shekhar's wife, and Sanjana, whose marriage is being fixed with Shekhar, thinks Bobby is Kishen's wife. Prem in order to save his friends' marriages tells Sanjana and Kaajal that Bobby is his second wife. It becomes a bundle of confusion, arguments and comedy when all the various couples meet together. The truth is eventually told through many comedic encounters, and eventually the three friends seemingly turn over a new leaf. It is hinted at the end of the movie, however, that the three friends have not completely turned over a new leaf with the entrance of Sameera Reddy in a cameo.

Development[edit]

During the production of No Entry, speculations arose that it would be a remake of the film Masti (2004). The comparisons were made due to both films revolving around the same subject of extra-marital affairs. However, producer Boney Kapoor strongly denied the similarities and clarified that No Entry would be a remake of the Tamil movie titled Charlie Chaplin (2002). Kapoor also stressed that he would never endorse innuendo-based films such as Masti.[1]

Reception[edit]

Box office[edit]

It was a big success, grossing 97.64 crore worldwide.[2] The film topped the Chennai box office on its opening weekend.[3]

Critical Response[edit]

Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, and stated "No Entry is a joyride that is bound to click with the masses in a big way. At the box-office, No Entry has all it takes to prove a success story on account of its massive star cast and excellent comedy it has to offer. Go have fun!"[4] India Today stated, "The movie is mostly about suspicious, nagging wives, extramarital affairs and lots of semi-clad, sexy bodies cavorting in foreign locations."[5] Patsy N of Rediff.com stated, "If we can watch men sleeping around, and laugh about them, why can't we do the same with movies about woman having extramarital affairs?"[6]

Jaspreet Pandohar of BBC gave the film 2 out of 5 stars, and stated "After tackling a romance and thriller, writer/director Anees Bazmee tries his hand at comedy with No Entry, a caper jammed-packed with Bollywood stars. Great gags sadly deteriorate into a series of stinky slapstick scenes you'll wish had never entered your life."[7] Marc Savlov of Austin Chronicle gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars, and stated "Writer-turned-director Bazmee has crafted a relatively smart and snarky war of the sexes minus the sex but with plenty of juicily hammy performances and enough outrageous one-liners, sight gags, and mistaken-identity yuks."[8] Ekanshu Khera of Planet Bollywood gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, and stated "Well-etched characters, hysterical situations, showcase of stars, witty dialogues, striking cinematography and scenic locales are some of the moments that stand out."[9]
